What is a Gear Motor?

Gear motors are electric motors that have been combined with a gearbox to boost torque and reduce speed. This combination eliminates the need for multiple systems. Gear motors help optimize power management, reduce operating costs, increase service life, and improve efficiency. They offer a great deal of flexibility, are designed to fit in small spaces, and will save you time and money

Gear motors can operate using either AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current) power, depending on the industry. Industrial applications requiring fixed speeds, such as cranes and elevators, typically use AC power. Variable speed applications are best served by DC gear motors. These are common in the automotive industry, where they are used to power windshield wipers, seats, and windows.

Gear Motor Applications

Electric gear motors have a wide range of uses and are utilized in applications across multiple industries. Hospital bed motor, power stairlifts, revolving doors, ATM motors, 3-D printers, commercial grills, electric turnstiles, blenders and mixers, and vending machines are all examples of equipment that incorporates gear motors to take advantage of limited space and power.

Different types of gear motors are available; your choice will depend on factors such as power, space, and the movement you are looking for. Parallel shaft DC gear motors are one of the most popular types in use worldwide.
