Right-angle gear motors are electric motors that have been combined with a gear reducer. Unlike a parallel shaft motor, which has inputs and outputs along a parallel plane, a right-angle gear motor consists of an output shaft that is perpendicular to the input shaft. They meet at a 90-degree right angle, hence the name.
Due to the right-angle gear’s compact design, it can fit easily into tight spaces, making right-angle gear motors a popular choice for applications with limited room and high torque requirements, such as automated equipment. Right-angle gear motors can operate using either AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current) power. Industrial applications requiring fixed speeds typically use AC power, while variable speed applications are best served by a right-angle DC motor.
Worm gears have a pair of aligned gears consisting of a worm (similar to a screw thread) that drives a wheel coupled to the output shaft.This results in a compact gear reducer with high torque that can be used as a braking system in right-angle gear motors.
